2017 TVET Colloquium

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Committee conducted its TVET Colloquium on Wednesday, May 10 to address some of the issues of the local Chamber with regards to the topic.

The colloquium which was held in the office of PCCI in Taguig also gave a brief background on what the PCCI had done in the past to promote the cause.

Leading the event were PCCI Human Resources Development Foundation (HRDF) Inc., President Dr. Alberto P. Fenix, Jr. and PCCI TVET Committee Chairman Dr. Carl Balita.

Both Dr. Fenix and Dr. Balita said that the colloquium was a testament of PCCI’s dedication to promote and improve the country’s human resources thru dualized education and training. This initiative was also backed by the German government program, the K to 12 Plus Project.

Undersecretary Jesus LR Mateo of Department of Education (DepEd) and Partnership and Incentives Assistance Division Chief Joy Songsong of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) were present in the event to answer the queries of some of the local chamber representatives.

Christian Stueer of GIZ, one of PCCI HRDF’s partner in implementing the K to 12 Plus Project, was also present in the event where he explained to the participants the Dual Training model of Germany and how it could be beneficial for local chamber in the Philippines.

Different chamber from NCR and other regions in Luzon were present in the event.

PCCI HRDF Presents to National TVET Group

PCCI HRDF President Dr. Alberto P. Fenix, Jr. attended the 2017 Philippine TVET Conference hosted by the Tech-Voc Schools Association of the Philippines (TVSA) on May 19 to 20.

 The 2017 TVET Conference which was held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel at Davao City focused on the three key areas namely partnership of stakeholders both in private and public sectors; the innovation and advocacy of TVET; and lastly the quality assurance and assessment of TVET programs. 

 Also with Dr. Fenix is K to 12 Plus Project Project Coordinator Andreas Dernbach.

PCCI HRDF and GIZ join RECOTVET Steering Committee Meeting

PCCI HRDF and its partner GIZ joined the 5th Steering Committee Meeting of RECOTVET in Bangkok, Thailand to review the overall results and progress of standard implementation.

In addition to reviewing the overall progress, the workshop which will run from February 9 to 10 will also tackle how to strengthen the function of private associations.

PCCI HRDF Executive Director Marlon Miña, GIZ long-term international consultant Mr. Christian Stüer, and short-term consultant Mr. Anton Sayo participated as part of the delegation from the Philippines. In addition, Mr. Elmer Talavera of TESDA was also part of the representatives from the country.

PCCI and TESDA inks another MoA

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) signed another Memorandum of Agreement today with the goal of strengthening the partnership of the two organizations specifically in the area of Tech-Voc.

Present in the event are TESDA Secretary Guiling Mamondiong and PCCI President George Barcelon. Also at the signing is PCCI Human Resources Development Foundation President Dr. Alberto Fenix, Jr.

One of the agreements of the partnership is the continuous promotion of the Dual Training System (DTS). A DTS Study was published by PCCI and TESDA in 2016 to let companies and students know the benefits of this kind of training methodology.

Deputy Director General for Partnerships and Linkages Ms. Rebecca Calzado, Executive Director of Partnerships and Linkages Ms. Luz Amponin, and other TESDA members also graced the event.

PCCI and HRDF receive Nepal Delegation

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and PCCI Human Resources Development Foundation Inc. received a Nepalese delegation from Colombo Plan Staff College on February 3 as part of their visit program.

The delegation’s visit was part of their government initiative to improve their country’s TVET which is called ENSURE (Enhance Skills for Sustainable and Rewarding Employment.) The delegation was headed by Ministry of Education Joint Secretary Mr. Surya Prasad Gautam.

PCCI President George T. Barcelon and PCCI HRDF President Dr. Alberto P. Fenix, Jr. spearheaded the delegation meeting where the two showcased PCCI and what it has done to improve the TVET side of the country.

Dr. Fenix also highlighted the K to 12 Plus Project, a German government funded initiative to support Philippines’ K to 12 Law, where he mentioned and stressed the use of the dualized education of training.

Also present in the event is PCCI treasurer Mr. Sergio Luiz-Ortis Jr., GIZ long-term international expert Mr. Christian Stueer, and PCCI TVET Committee Chair Dr. Carl Balita.
